Open Championships

2027!

The EKF is hosting the first Nihon Kendo Kata European Open Championships in Ravenna, Italy, on the weekend of April 17–18, 2027. Please find the preliminary regulations attached.

Key points: Eligibility is open to all Kendoka, Iaidoka, and Jodoka registered with the EKF through their respective national federations.

Pairs will be judged. The highest rank held by either partner (regardless of the discipline in which it was attained) determines the competition category. The rank difference between partners in a pair must not exceed two Dan grades.

Federations may register an unlimited number of pairs. In exceptional cases, pairs may be formed by competitors from different nations.

Please inform the DIaiB board by September 15, 2026, at the latest, if you are interested in participating in the European Championships. To allow the organizers to plan reliably, the pre-entry phase—indicating the approximate total number of participants—must be completed by September 30, 2026.

If you practice Jodo and/or Kendo in addition to Iaido, it does not matter which channel you use to register; all registrations will be consolidated before being submitted to the EKF.

Please read the attached regulations carefully and in full before making your decision.

At this stage, no decision has been made regarding whether the DIaiB can offer financial support for participation in the championships. You should, in any case, budget for travel expenses, accommodation, meals, and entry fees.
